Crank no spark

Post by Rycooda » Fri May 15, 2026 9:24 pm

Hi all,

Getting a bit frustrated with my car now, I have a 1997 Mazda mx-6 (V6 4-speed Auto) one day last year it began to struggle starting, but once it warmed up it wouldn't misfire, until one day it stopped turning on completely. it still cranks when the battery is charged but doesn't seem to spark.

This is everything I have checked/had fixed:
- CPS replaced
- I have two working dizzies that have had benchmark checks from ignition car parts
- ECU reconditioned
- relays working to my best knowledge
- OBD 1 just flashes in a standard rhythm which seems to mean no code
- Battery changed

One time a mechanic friend came over and wriggled some sensors, and the car worked for a day, and subsequently stopped again a day later, does anyone know which sensors can be liable for stopping spark/turning on?

If anyone has any wiring diagrams I would be grateful to see them, no diagrams I have found so far seem to match the colours of my wires.

Cheers!

You said you changed the ECU :?:
Do you have the TEMIC system on the car :?:
If so, is the replacement ECU match to it :?:

No sorry I didn’t replace it, I got it reconditioned at a place called actronics (they found a burnt out track and managed to repair it)

But I have no idea if this one has a Temic system… I’ll do some reading….

Have you a chipped Key :?:
If so , it's likely the TEMIC security system we have on the Late Probe's ( post 1996).
These are 'matched to the ECU', so you can't just swap over the ECU's on Late cars.

That might be your problem.

Has it only stopped working since you had the ECU repaired?

No it wasn’t working prior to this either, it was repaired in an attempt to get the car running

Just to clarify for people, the ecu/pcm wasn’t replaced it was just fixed
