Pulley/bearing issue

Post by KEG » Mon Nov 03, 2025 10:06 am

I’ve noticed a noisy what seems to be a pulley/bearing issue on my belt. It’s worse on start up but becomes intermittent as the car warms up. The sound is like a grinding sound. Not a screeching sound. I suppose it would be recommended to get this sorted as soon as possible. Saying that a neighbour who knows a lot about cars said he would leave it for now unless it becomes a lot worse. Can anyone advise?

Probe 24v 1996.

The bearing in the accessory pulleys is a replaceable thing. Any bearing wholesaler would have them on the shelf.

Just replace the bearing in the pully.
Knock the old one out, & press the new one in

Also noticed that the top hose from the radiator is deflated but goes back to normal after running.

Do you have enough water in the system, or a faulty thermostat, as that sounds like an airlock?

Well there seems to be enough in the system going by checking the rad and expansion tank. But at one point the hose that is deflating did have a leak until another Jubilee clip was added. It was leaking on to the belt causing a noise.
