Engine won't start

Post by Probe97Fiesta01 » Fri Feb 10, 2023 4:08 pm

Hiya,

So a couple days ago my engine cut out, AA guy told me it was the distributor cap (was badly worn) so have installed a new one. So that issues fixed...however it still didn't start. My mechanic came round and tested if it was getting a spark and it is now, also said it wasn't flooding or anything. He did say that I should get a new rotor arm as mine also has a small crack in it and could be causing the current to arc incorrectly. So I've ordered that off ebay now. Since the new distributor caps on its cranking alot better without popping....just won't start.

Has anyone else had a similar problem? Not sure how likely it is that it's just the slightly cracked rotor arm that's causing it to not start? Arm should come next week so any advise would be great.

Thanks
Verity

Been trying to get it apart and can't, clicked the thing in and everything 😅 I've just put the new rotor arm in and it didn't start. Is there a correct orientation that the metal bit on the mrotor arm needs to sit in? Like the metal bit pointing to the pin near plug no.1? Also I noticed a discrepancy between the new rotor arm (on the left) and old (on the right) the little carbon thing in the centre is much more pronounced in the old one and flatter in the new? Is the new one the wrong part?

I'm worried as my mechanic isn't available for 4 weeks and use the car for college and work a couple times a week. Still learning how to do everything and what things are.

(Also its Alpine Green, the previous owner hated the yellow on the engine haha but looks nice  )
Thanks, Verity

Also this is what the ebay listing looked like in comparison?
I don't know about the timing either so will try and check that, no idea how.
