Number 3 setting on the heater not working ?.

Post by paulp » Sat Nov 05, 2022 4:18 pm

Hi guys, well took the car to be rust proofed yesterday & needed the heater on to clear the windscreen. Haven't really used the heater before so this was the 1st time using in earnest. Heater worked fine in no's 1,2 & 4, but when putting into no 3 it just stopped working so i'm wondering if this is an easy fix ?, if not it's not a major problem as i can live with the 3 settings i have, but i do like things to be right if possible !

Sounds like the heater resistor card on way out.will always work on 4 as default mode
or panel slider needs a clean

I believe that your car is a late car, which means you will need the later heater resistor, time to put up a post in the wanted section.
Replacement can be tricky as it is near the heater blower under the dash on the passenger side, head in the foot well time 😮

As for cleaning the slider you could try some contact cleaner on a cotton bud and try to run it inside the slider, again not easy.

I have to say that it’s unusual for just step 3 to fail, it is normally 2 & 3 that go?

Not a bad job to change, just need to be flexible to get to the two screws, short handle screwdriver.
I've just tested a few of my spares, to find a good one for Slick, (working on all 3 settings) 4 is always live,
I have found that a couple of them don't work on no 3.
I did manage two but a couple of new ones on ebay, I think for about £19 each, somebody had found them on ebay but didn't want to take a chance of them not working, so I did and its been on my lazer for ages, so I reported on the site that it worked and then I bought another, and I didn't hear from the member who didn't want to risk it,

Trev, do you know what year did the cars change from being an early to a late car ?

A rough guide is Late 95 in to 96, as there are a few “cross-over” models as they started to change things.
The easiest way to determine early or late is the bump strips, coloured mirrors, the actual colour of the car in a metallic colour, different distributor too, I’m sure I have missed some things.

Probe logo on the quarter light
Map pocket only on the passenger side
No footwell lights
No under bonnet light
Holes in the u/s tailgate for a spoiler
No door pull handle on the passenger door
No net in the boot
Smooth leather steering wheel

Think I’ve covered the other items

Is there a part no for this resistor ?, i've had a look in the part list but can't seem to find it ?, & this might be a silly question, but don't suppose these resistors can be repaired ?.
