Engine surging
24v 1997 probe
Starts no problem runs fast slightly more than normal cold start revs
When reached warm engine surges up and down constant the revs
Any ideas would be appreciated as I don’t think would want drive on road as is
If a specific part is required to swap sort issues il source replacement hopefully from a member through here
Regards Chris g

Re: Engine surging
I'm with Duncan (kit) Coolant level 1st,
my 16v MRP, would rev up and down, embarrassing when the school crossing lady would stop me, and the car would rev up/down on its own, I had some funny looks from her,

Re: Engine surging
Just to echo what's already been said. I changed the antifreeze on my probe and had the same erratic revving I finally rectified it by getting rid of an air lock.

Re: Engine surging
Just kept a eye on the coolant levels, (when engine has cooled down, H & S)
Couple of things also to keep a eye on,
Rad cap, when car is up to temp, slow remove the tube off the side of the rad cap, (lead to overflow bottle) if coolant come out of the rad cap plastic pipe, change the rad cap for a new one.
Another source of losing water is the coolong pipe running between the fuel injectors (under inlet manifold)
Coolant pipes in/out base of throttle body.
To be fair check all rubber hoses

Re: Engine surging
Hi thanks for the info
Il be checking levels again weekend and check rad cap leak you mentioned along with all hoses for signs of water leaks
I did add some antifreeze during top up to be fair it took about litre of water max to fill up to the top cap level
I’m thinking if any leaks appear I should see the traces of yellow antifreeze hopfully none would great meaning no leaks
Regards Chris g
