Your keys look correct for a Bosch immobiliser
03/1997 Probe 2.5 V6 - Crank No Start/Spark
Re: 03/1997 Probe 2.5 V6 - Crank No Start/Spark
Thanks. Yes, checked the cables and it looks like they have been done correctly as the labels/numbers are correct. Doesn't mean they did it to the correct cables though of course! Might be a bit harder and some work to check these after they have been cut though.
It does sound like it could certainly be the dizzy. Do people normally replace the ignition module part, or just the whole dizzy, rotor arm/cap as a whole complete unit?
Is it correct with the Bosch immobiliser that one it has been bypassed that you can remove the unit completely as no longer required?
Does the Bosch unit use the remote key fobs so if the Bosch unit was installed it would need the remote key fobs if not bypassed?
I'm gradually learning about these cars and generally get my head around stuff pretty quick.
I went to visit Kev last year and got a water pump/timing belt/pulley kit. Also some near rear tailgate struts.
I just wanted to get it started and running before I fully commit to throwing a lot of time/money at it. Will then go through all typical consumables to replace all of these.
Re: 03/1997 Probe 2.5 V6 - Crank No Start/Spark
When you say that the Bosch immobiliser can kill the dizzy would it be best in this case longer term to remove the Bosch unit so it can't cause any issues in the future?
I can then replace the whole dizzy with a new unit complete with new rotor arm and cap then be safe in the knowledge the Bosch immobiliser unit couldn't destroy this in the future?
Thank you so much for your help and information. It is much appreciated

If you can find a good working dizzy at a reasonable price then change the whole thing.
To be honest, I left my moby in place, the pictures in the write up are of my car.
As the moby has been by-passed it will not cause you any further trouble.
Have you seen the car running?

I've found a supplier in Basildon who has new ones complete for £200 inc vat which seems fair enough to me so will likely go with that.Micron wrote: ↑Mon Jul 21, 2025 8:26 pmIf you can find a good working dizzy at a reasonable price then change the whole thing.

When you say the pictures are of your car do you mean the pictures in the bypass write up being your car?
Not sure if this has any impact or use but when I had the Bosch immobiliser plugged in the immobiliser red light near the steering wheel would flash on/off. Obviously when I removed it then it no longer lit.
If you bypass the Bosch unit but leave it plugged in will the immobiliser light still flash?
Just want to make sure it isn't the bypass wiring done wrong or badly by the previous owner before I bight the bullet on the disty.
I have never seen the car running as bought it not running and had a local recovery guy in Harlow collect it for me on a low loader.

Yes, never had or ever seen a fob. It does make sense the disty could be the likely culprit at the moment.

Yes the light will flash for a bit, then go steady, then flash again after a while. You can take it out completely of you want.
As for a new Dizzy, have a look on RockAuto and Ebay you might find a new one cheaper that Ignition Car Parts, I just found one on RockAuto for £125 delivered. Also some people have had issues with Ignition car Parts

Great, thanks for all that info. Much appreciated. Hopefully I can get it all running nicely then can spend some time/money getting it to a nice resting place.Micron wrote: ↑Tue Jul 22, 2025 8:22 amThe pictures in the write up is mine, I took the picturesrockits wrote: ↑Mon Jul 21, 2025 9:27 pmI've found a supplier in Basildon who has new ones complete for £200 inc vat which seems fair enough to me so will likely go with that.Micron wrote: ↑Mon Jul 21, 2025 8:26 pmIf you can find a good working dizzy at a reasonable price then change the whole thing.

I may be wrong here but I think you need a working key fob , even with a by-passed
immobiliser.
And NEVER , NEVER leave a spark plug lead disconnected.
