ABS Light on

Post by Cinders34 » Sat May 09, 2026 5:12 pm

Hi all and apologies for my long winded question as you have probably answered this question many times before.
I am not a Mechanic (limited knowledge on mechanics) but I can't seem to find anyone local to me that can take on and resolve my problem.

I have a 1996 2.5 V6 registered 29 th March 1996 and I have owned it for the last 20 yrs , it was garaged for a number of years and then put back on the road discs brakes etc ,tbe ABS Light is on but I cannot get any one that can connect to the diagnostics to pinpoint the problem as I believe their modern setup is not compatible to the Probes diagnostic port , are the connection plugs available ?, or any other advice please.

You can't plug it in. More than likely it'll be a faulty abs module, which is a blue box under the dashboard, if the back of your head was resting on the accelerator pedal, move a bit of trim you'll see it. It's a rocking horse poo part.

Count the flashes on the dashboard- that's the trouble code.

The blue box is the Air Bag light box, ABS one is behind the passenger side rear side panel., it’s silver.

Have you disconnected the battery for a couple of minutes, with your foot on the bake pedal, reconnect and try it again.
You might have to take it for a spin.

Could be any of the 4 sensors or if like mine the abs ring keeps coming loose on the drivers front,
Start by pulling the codes, to identify if it's a sensor, if you find a faulty sensor try removing it and give it a clean.
Or it could be a faulty control unit

Thanks for these suggestions. My car is also displaying the ABS light, most of the time.
