Engine cutting out

Hi everyone,
I really hope you can help.
My 1995 v6 2.5l probe went into the garage to have the cam cover gaskets replaced. When they started it up, the car started, but it cuts out when the coolant fan comes on. They’re stumped at the moment as to what to do?
Also I’d like to get an obd reader as they haven’t got the correct plug. Can you also advise if it’s an obd1 or 2 please?

OBD 1, there is no 'reader' you need to get an LED and bit of wire, info readily available online.
There are a lot of wires and pipes down the back of the engine they will have disturbed to do the job.
Look the the Crank Sensor Plug (down need dipstick), clean it up. Could be related.

Hi, if it’s cutting out when the fan kicks in, then I would say that you need a new distributor. When the car warms up, there is something in the distributor that then goes faulty.
If you leave the car for a while it will start again.
I had the same thing happen to my 1995 24v
You can buy a new one, look on eBay or RockAuto or have it checked and repaired at ignition car part’s Basildon
Thanks
Trev

Thank you . I’ll get them to have a look at that, although it did have a new distributor on a few years ago, but we’ve got to start somewhere.

I’ll get them to have a look at that. Hopefully it’s something and nothing, but it’s just finding what’s been disturbed. I think that’s why he wants to try a code reader on it.

As mentioned, you will not find a code reader that works with the Ford Probe.
If your car starts from cold, the CPS is working, it’s only required for start up.
For £10 you can become a full member and see the listing of the codes and how to do it.
www.membermojo.co.uk/ukpoc
Follow the instructions etc
If you decide to do it there may be a delay my end as I’m currently out of the country in a different timezone!
