Sourcing 1996 v16 Distributor Parts

Post by jhogan_13 » Wed Apr 03, 2024 9:16 pm

Ford Probe
2.0L 16v
1996

Hi All,

I am trying to source a distributor cap and rotor arm for my v16 Probe. I think I have found the distributor cap but I cannot check it against the OEM number that my local Ford Dealership gave me (3903067). The cap I found is the BOSCH GM815. It looks the exact same as my one, so I am guessing it's correct. Maybe someone could clarify if I am right in saying this is the correct one for the 1996 v16 probe.

However, I cannot find a rotor arm. I think (based on the cap and what I have read on these forums) my distributor is the S3 T2T57971 version. The OEM number the dealership gave me for the rotor arm is 3993623.

Could anyone help me in finding this part?

Thanks,
John

Hi John,
I would also say that your dizzy is a S3. Where have you tried to source the parts?
I believe ( I’m no expert on 16v’s) that there are only 2 types of dizzy cap, one for each type of dizzy S1 or S3, so if the one you are looking at matches yours then I would say it will fit.
As for the rotor you probably need to check the underneath of it as they can have different fittings, and check it against the ones you are looking at.

For a guide have a look at RockAuto, they sell everything and normally have pictures as a guide.

This is really helpful thank you!

Rock Auto seems to be a great source. I have found a rotor on there and will take mine out to check against the picture.

Thank you, much appreciated!

I will give an update when I can check!

So an update on trying to source these parts,

It seems like RockAuto are showing the wrong cap and rotor for the 1996 2.0l v16 Ford Probe.

I have opened my one and there are numbers on it but I cannot seem to find the exact replacement parts.

Number on cap: T713
Number on Rotor:T239

Here are images of the parts from my car.

Please ignore the horrendous spray job, this was done by a previous owner and I will be looking to clean it all up eventually.

Any advice would be much appreciated. If possible I would be looking for the OEM numbers for these 2 parts.

Thanks!

Hi Tott61,

Apologies, I did not see your reply until now. I managed to get the cap and rotor together in a set from RockAuto, I wasn't sure if the rotor would fit but it did so I'm good for the rotor.

I actually got the set from the Mazda 626 section. Very handy to know that the same engine is used in the 626 and the MX6 so that worked out well.

Thank you very much for your offer, it is much appreciated.
