Good news and bad news, Good news, distributor in place, just waiting for rocker cover gasket ( ? )to arrive.
Bad news, It now turns out that my 'sprained ankle' is actually a ruptured Achillies tendon, which should have been diagnosed at A/e and the appropriate action taken immediately. Have now been told it's too late to operate due to length of time elapsed, and possible complications involved. So may end up with permanent inability to perform normal daily activities. Not a good start to the year, and on the eve of my 72nd birthday. Now considering a mobility scooter with Probe body kit.

Update, distributor on and all reassembled, engine turning over, with spark but apparantly no fuel coming through. Checked fuel cut out in case recovery had triggered it. Engine management light on. Then bad light, and flat battery stopped play. Thinking back to original breakdown, when the car stalled at the traffic lights, the eml was on when i managed to restart it ,before it died altogether. Any suggestions as to the order of checking, what to do next please ??

Since you suspect fuel pump is not running then concentrate on getting that going
first.
Not an easy item to change so check everything before resorting to replacing it.

Is this still running the immobiliser key fob :?: ,check fuel delivery by slightly undoing the banjo bolt
to fuel rail/eml is usually alternator/battery

Sounds to me that your alternator could be at fault, did you happen to see what the battery was indicating when the eml was on, top scale or bottom scale or showing normal
I've heard of the eml been on and the engine just cuts out once the battery is not charging.

Fuel pump running, compression ok, plugs sparking but still not starting, he's wondering if there's a problem with the injectors ? Didn't see battery indicator when eml was on, it started again and got me about 100 yards before stopping again, then a few minutes later it started and I got about another 10/15 ft before it gave up for good. Immobiliser was bypassed before I got the car ( It was Ickles )

If you are using the dizzy that I sent, I would look at trying another one, just to make sure.
Can you start the car and let it tick over for a while?

He tried it with yours which was sparking, then swapped connector that was damaged on Kit's and tried that, he said it was a better spark, but still not starting. He thinks fuel is not going in at injectors.
