Front Left ABS Sensor Repair Advice Needed

Hello,
Help please! Desperately trying to get our old girl back on the road. Many months of working through the abs codes and now down to just one left.
The front left sensor is probably duff (abs code comes on when we drive), so we're wondering if we can mend or repair the current one because not yet been able to find a replacement.
We remember someone mentioning it can be the wire that gets damaged over the years of turning the wheel. When we drive straight it seems to be fine. But the code seems to only be triggered when we make a hard turn. So wondering if we can replace the wire - we read somewhere it can be done with speaker wire. Do you know what spec wire and procedure for giving best chance of making this work?
Also there is a dent in the end - is this enough to make it trip a code? If so, not much point trying the rewire...
Appreciate any ideas about how we might make the old one work or where we might get a replacement ... would a mazda one be worth a try?
Thanks for any help you can offer.
Cheers
Ron & Kate

I would say that the damage isn’t helping, do you know how it happened?
Also when searching have you tried looking for a Mazda MX6 ABS sensor as they are the same.

Hey thanks for your reply.
We have no idea how that damage happened but since we can drive for miles in a straight line before the code trips, maybe it's not the problem ...
We were told by Mark years ago that Mazda MX6 sensors may work, but not always, so we should always try to get a Probe one. Is that true or are they exactly the same?

I would argue that they are the same, but from a MX6
The other thing to check is the condition of the ABS ring to see if there is an damage or damage to the wire if it only does it when you turn the wheel?

Thanks! The ring is fine and the wire looks OK but can't see any other reason why the code would come up after driving it. Seems to be just when we make big turns but that could just be a coincidence. Clutching at straws maybe. We took it off and tested it and all seems in spec. Can't make it fail on the bench.
We don't want to hack it about and change the wire unless someone can explain how. Just in case it's actually OK.
Will also see if we can source a Mazda one. If we can and it works we're good. If not we'll be back !

Have you checked the ABS ring on the Inner CV joint.
Is it lose, missing teeth , covered in grease or the rubber boot, etc
Is the ABS sensor mounted correctly

on the hub

Hi! Thanks for your questions. Yes, we checked everything. All looks good. Sensor tests OK on the bench too. Can only think to try to replace it and see if another one works. Just gotta find one ...

Could be when the hub unit heats up and gives a false signal

As far as I know, the only difference between right hand & left hand, is mount to the inner wing & to the strut.
So, you could swap sides over, ( with a bit of temporary support), see if there’s any improvement

Thanks! Might be worth a go before we butcher the part by trying to rewire it ...
