New probe owner.
Hi everyone thanks for letting me join.
I am now the proud owner of a 1995 ford probe 2.0 16v
I need some help, I’ve looked through the garage questions, but can only find snippets of what I need to know.
My car came with a key for the doors but no chip, I think the lady had lost the keys.
I have another car that I’m using for spare as the body is to far gone. It’s a 1997 model, both 2.0 16v
I borrowed the ecu, key and barrel, and the unit under the dash. Now it starts and runs.
I am getting a code 51 from the air bag light, but this was going out before with the old ecu, the car would start and then cut out, the emobilizer would cut in, but the airbag light would go out.
I was wondering has the new ecu has caused a problem or blown the thermal fuse? I am also wondering is there a way to reset the airbag ecu? I’ve read a few things about a grey plug, but am unsure. Is this done from the plug under the bonnet. I would really love to get this on the road and add another one to the list of probes left.
Many thanks.
Ant

Hi Ant,
It does sound like the thermal fuse has blown, they are replaceable and you can do it yourself if you are able.

Hi Micron thanks for the reply. Ok I’ll order some fuses and get the airbag unit out. Is there a reset for the airbag, or will it be fix the fuse and the codes will go away? Many thanks. Ant

Ant, I see you have signed up for full membership, once that has been paid for and activated, you will see the oracle. There is a topic on Air-bag codes and reset.anthonyvarney76 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 10, 2022 7:11 amHi Micron thanks for the reply. Ok I’ll order some fuses and get the airbag unit out. Hi and welcome to the club,
Air bag light on, you say you have another probe that you are using bits off, air bag code 51 is the thermal fuse, one quick way to sort it, is to swap out the unit from your old car, it's a blue unit on the inside of the drivers side footwell (high up)

Hey Tom thanks for the message. It’s good to meet everyone. It used to be my car many years ago, and I finally found it. It needs some work, but I’m so happy to have her back.

Hi Mojo, thanks for the message. I’m pretty sure the airbag light was on the other car, so I think it may be a problem with the ecu, as it’s the only thing I’ve changed and now my old car has the airbag light on..

Re: New probe owner.
I could be wrong, but I don't know anyone who has taken the Temic system from a 97 car and put it in a 95 car. Have you compared keys, as they will look different, I think that you need an early system for a 95 car, unless your 95 car is a crossover?
Early cars don't have chips, they have fobs, but a lot of people bypass them,
Can you share a picture of your 95 key and the 97 key

Hi Micron, thanks for the message. I’ll grab a picture of the keys. I remember playing with these systems years ago. The 95 has ecu, key reader and termec unit under heater box, just like the 97 one. Just the numbers are different if the ecu’s but the plugs are a direct swap over.
She runs fine, no ecu lights or codes, although she does idle fast, but it did that on the 97 one. Think it may just need the throttle body Tps adjusting. It’s early days yet, still lots to do, but she starts and that’s a win lol. I’m not do the ecu’s need to be a direct match?
