Check engine light on solid

Hey guys,

1995 2.0l.

Just tried the immobilizer bypass and think it worked fine. Kinda. Anyway the check engine light is on solid now and the car turns over but doesn't start. I put the immobilizer back on and it works as it should - I really dont think thats what caused the problem.

I cant read the check engine codes - I've hooked up ten and gnd with a paperclip, made sure its a solid connection, and hooked up ten to the negative battery. The check engine light stays on solid.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm worried I should be billed more than my membership fee for the amount of help I need lol.

What kind of tool is it? It seems I fix one thing and break three others in the process :(

Are the bypass connections right?
Engine with cross through it is usually alternator/battery related...

Its the engine with a cross through it, the battery has gone flat due it to being sitting there for a few months - I charged the battery all day before giving it a boot.

The engine with a cross through it is the check engine light right? Am I stupid as heck?

It certainly is usually means its the alternator faulty,if you have a volt meter
put across the battery terminals and you should get a reading of appx 14v
when running if the alternator is ok
But check the wiring if you pull the Moby back out and dos,nt work as only
3 circuit,s
Fuel pump
Starter

Changed the battery to a known good one and still doesn't start. Is there a way to test the alternator without the car being on?

Any help on how to read the engine code would be most helpful.

Hey guys,

Just gone back to it and the check engine light is still on. (Was hoping it might just magically turn itself off.)

I've connected the GND and TEN in the diagnostics bitty and nothing happens. I attached an LED to the B+ and FEN and it went on for about a second when I moved the key to the 2nd place (ON) then went out.

I dont think it happened when I was disconnecting the immobilizer - I shorted it with paperclips and have since removed them and just put the original connector back into the black box.

The car isn't starting either.

Not a lot to go on, but I really just wish I could read engine codes so that I could actually work out whats going wrong. Could the GND terminal in the diagnostics box be iffy as I was having problems reading the ABS codes previously.

Any help greatly appreciated.
