Front Suspension Knock

Post by Mikeyv824v » Fri Feb 11, 2022 10:29 pm

Hi everyone, my car has an annoying knocking coming from the front when driving and worse over rough surfaces, what are the common things that wear out on the front? Nothing obvious on visual inspection.

Worn bushes
Loose top mount fixings or other fixings
Does it do it when you turn the steering wheel, as it could be a CV joint, any split gaiters?

Identify which side the noise is coming from.
Is it worse when turning left/right , go on a roundabout to find out.
Now you have to look.
Anything broken, drop link , spring , loose shock absorber , CV boot ?
Rotate the wheel by hand on full left/right lock , listen/feel if it is good.
Turn the wheel left/right , listen /feel again for anything 'unusual.

Hard to tell exactly which side, in all honesty I’d say both, I’ll have a try at what you’ve suggested and see if I can find anything.

Ok, so next clue is 'how often' is the 'knock' happening.
Does it occur on every revolution of a wheel , or only when turning a corner , or 'random' in a straight line ?

Straight line, just when you’re driving along a poor road surface.

Broken spring
Broken drop link
Loose 'shock absorber'
Lower wishbone bushes
Track rod ?
Bearing
No choice but check everything.

I had a similar thing on mine and it turned out to be a loose shock absorber .

Sounds like anti-roll bar bushes and links to me.
