Re: Tappet rattle
Its not super bad but it does annoy me that its there! I'm off to Ryhope end of the moth so I'll get everyone to have a listen! Look after the oil and the oil will look after you has always been my mantra, but the bozo I bought the car from was running it into the ground. No service in 5 years! Its ...

Tappet rattle
I have what sounds like a tappet rattle. Most noticeable at about 1000rpm but silent at driving speed. Its been slowly getting worse over a period of about 5k miles. How easy/difficult a job is it to change the tappets? Without having looked at the job, I'm assuming the heads and manifolds stay in p...

Re: Flywheel weight reduction???
Lightening the flywheel will make the engine more responsive because it has less weight to accelerate. However it wont give you more power. Power is power and you would need more fuel and air to increase it. The "responsiveness" downside would be that it will decelerate more rapidly too, potentially...

Re: Inlet Air Control Valve Servicing
Thanks Jon, I thought it was something along those lines. I assume the carbon cleaner cant attack the wax? I'll try the boring method then...! The hot air blower. I had visions of you doing a Kenny Everett and spontaneously combusting along with the table and carbon cleaner. Do you remember his D.I...

Inlet Air Control Valve Servicing
I took my spare I.A.C apart today and was a little disappointed to find that beyond an in-situ cleanup, it doesn't look very user serviceable, unlike the 16v which you could take apart completely. Gasket looked pretty good though! The Ford manual only talks about replacement so they obviously consid...

Re: Airbag light
I have a similar problem. Code 33 seams to be Pin 7 not grounded at DM. What is DM ? Anyone DM is Diagnostic Monitor (or module to us) and for 33 its looking for a resistance of 0.9 to 1.1 ohms across pins 9 and 11 when the ignition is turned to ON. Above 4 ohms and you get 33 flashing. I'd check t...

Re: Airbag light
I pulled the connector behind glove box and cleaned it. Light has gone out for now. I think you've sorted it. Code 33 is the passenger air bag and the circuit is very simple, just the airbab with its shorting bar and the joint connector you pulled. Connector is most likely as its know to be a commo...
