Re: Won't start..
If you did replace the dizzy for a known runner you've just eliminated a whole load of possibilities! My 94 16v suffered two "wont start faults. Every 30k miles the dizzy would burn out thanks to the immobiliser and would need the module replacing. Then I had a very scary fault where the running eng...

Re: Won't start..
Given the trouble I had and the lousy reputation of the distributor on Probes, I'd be inclined to change the distributor for a working spare. I had fuel and a spark but the engine wouldn't run. RAC man thought immobiliser because of the spark but it was the dizzy right enough. Think back to before t...

Re: Won't start..
You need air, fuel and ignition. Sounds like you have the ignition? what about the fuel? Pump or things that immobilise it maybe.

Re: Steering play
Definitely check the tyre pressures and don't mix tyres of different makes and tread pattern, then I'd start looking at lower wishbone and track rod bushes and ends. When I picked up the flying machine from Manchester, I wanted to go to Gloucester and it wanted to go to Liverpool... through the cent...

Re: Tappet Rattle - a dummy run.
Don't we know it +++. My concern is, you would do all the work then find another one starts 'tapping' ! Perhaps a few oil changes using flushing oil before doing the job is worth a try ? I wouldnt get caught like that John. If I did the job at all it would be all of them because my way of thinking ...

Re: Tappet Rattle - a dummy run.
If you're taking the cam belt off, you don't need any specialist tools. The cam belt cover is accessible with the engine in, but you'll need to remove the top engine mounting. You'll need to support the engine, I usually use a trolley jack with a length of 4x4 wood along the sump to spread the weig...

Tappet Rattle - a dummy run.
Took the front rocker cover off my doner today for a look at the camshafts and was pleased to see it all looks very clean. I've got an ever worsening tappet rattle at about 1000 RPM (less at 700 and undetectable above 1500 RPM, but its bugging me and I know I'll never stop fretting about it till I'v...

Re: Airbag light flashing
For you to have an aftermarket steering wheel without an airbag alarm someone must have fitted a 1.0 ohm resistor where the "shorting bar" resistor used to be, so I'd be very suspicious of that item. The shorting bars job was to create a measurable resistance in the circuit that the module can monit...

Re: Dodgy oil pressure switch
Totally agree ears and eyes the best judges of a problem. As for late penny pinching dont forget no compartment in rear drivers seat only passenger. And the cheap heater resistor. I was chuffed when I got my late but I think an early is on the whole better. A plus though is the temic. Hmmm... After ...
