Well it appears my erratic idle has fixed itself..... FItted a brand new battery yesterday as the other one was struggling to start the car most of the time. One easy way around it ( not OME, so MoJo won’t like it !). Take the tray out by ‘over’ drill the rust fixing with a hole saw. Remove the battery tray bracket that sites above the inside of the wing. As Malc said check the gearbox for oil as this is over looked,most do an
oil change etc,but dont do the Gearbox oil at the same time

You only need 2.7 lt of oil & 23mm socket,
Funnel & length of hose is the easiest way to re-fill the gearbox

Got Couple of 16v steering pump here,
Just need to swap the fitting over

The 16v shaft&inner CV joint is smaller on diameter, than a 24v.
If you use a 24v O/s drive shaft on a 16v, can’t get at the bolts on the intermediate shaft bearing, to the block
