The rear brake will always fail-safe , ie work. Problem will occur when you release the handbrake . It won't. I believe that your car is a crossover M Reg, coloured mirrors, and late wheel, so it should be a S3 Dizzy,
Have you checked the water level, it sound silly be MrP played up when level down (small leak on small pipe near dizzy)

I have two of mine that do that, just last week my gold 24v wouldn't fire on its 1st attempt, straight away I unplug the cps Plug, and away it fired, can't say why but if mine don't fire at the 1st attempt I going to the cps plug, It's not that you need a new cps, my lazer started doing this back in...

Have you swapped the side light relay (f) as in the handbook in the engine bay Malc If it doesn't rain tomorrow I'll check that out, I've got a job on tomorrow changing the inner track rod on the Gold ( very slight movement) due for mot in March Hope you get the inner track rod done Malc Manage to ...

Swapped over the F relay, still no joy, even used the horn relay which definitely works but nothing. Managed to remove the old inner track rod off the steering rack, but did like the look of the new on I got off Ebay, so contact my local autoparts, but will be Wednesday before here can ring the supp...

Finally got round to change to whole clock spring on the Lazer, but still have no side lights, new normal blubs fitted (did LEDs in) but no joy.
