ANYTHING that holds up the conduction of that HT voltage to the spark plugs is BAD.
Gaps are bad
Always fit a new rotor arm and dis cap if you repair dissy

Check the MAF unit is working and every connection made to it.

Do NOT , EVER , leave a plug lead disconnected......it will kill the transistors in the distributor

Take the rotor arm off and check that ALL three metal tabs are there..

Hmmm, bit worrying that , are you sure a camshaft isn't running dry/stiff ?

Really check that ALL the tiny flexible pipes around the MAF unit are properly connected.

Dropping the tank lets you do all the other things too.
Turn that bolt round , through the lateral arms in the centre of the car. So that head is at front , nut at rear.
De-rust /protect brake pipes.
