You will need a 96,97 car, if you go to buy an engine, check that it has a S1 dizzy.
However, you might find that an earlier car is a better option, it just means a few more things to swap over

Ah, not good, If you find another engine, what's to say that will be any better? Also as your car is a later car, remember that you may need to change over more items if you buy an early engine.

Update - over fuelling issue was incorrect , I am now on the lookout for a replacement 2.0 16V engine as mine has several issues and a rebuild would cost way to much . Car is 1997 model , would anyone have an engine and costs please ? Gutted tbh but it is what is it , thanks for all the suggestions...

Have you had the battery disconnected for a period of time? If you have, your ECU has to learn every thing again, are you able to take it for a run. You mentioned that the dizzy has been replaced, was it a new one or used, has anything under the bonnet been moved or tampered with? How are the water ...

Thanks folks , Micron .. i am based in Scotland Taking car to another garage as getting no where at the moment , guy hasn’t looked at it in nearly 3 weeks . She had a new distributor in October 2020 , will them to check it out . I would still try another Dizzy, as they can be very temperamental

Has the timing been checked? does it stop if you remove one of the plug leads, because it's only firing on 2? Any chance that you can change the distributor?

Just to add, we need at least 6 people to place an order and it normally takes about 6 months for them to be made and delivered
