I only had the belt changed. £189 for the belt and £300 labour/vat. I think it was only the idler and tensioner pulleys they were talking about for another £600. Mind you, they were on holiday when I phoned and got to deal with the Boy, who probably just quoted for the whole assembly. Now we have re...

Thanks Guys. It was the difference between a £500 job and a £1300 one. Had the belt done as it's been done religiously every 5 years since new (4K per belt, boo hoo). Will get the idler pulleys, pump, etc done nearer 60K which is when they would have been done with normal usage. The garage seemed to...

Hi Everyone,
Has anyone ever experienced a garage wanting to change all cambelt pulleys along with the belt as a matter of rountine? The car has only done 19K, but even so, I've never heard mechanics say this without even seeing the car!

Hi All, I'm Carl. Just inherited my late fathers 2.5 24V. He had it from new in 1996 and it's still only got 17K on the clock. It had a cambelt change 6 years ago, due mainly to lack of use ( he changed belts every 5 years regardless). Is there maximum time period for belt life? I will be using it f...
