350 odd miles in - I go to start the car this morning and the HLA ticking had come back :( Kind of hoped I'd got rid of that for good. Back to starting the car twice again I suppose (neighbours just think I'm bonkers). I also noticed a little oil smoke this morning when I got to work after an enthusiastic drive - not from the exhaust but the engine bay/wheel arch - reckon that pesky rocker cover gasket's leaking again...maybe I'll weld it up next time!

The faint whiff of morning smoke is not eveident any more and she starts without any noise. She seems a bit healthier all round and doing about 28-30mpg on a run and has done around 300 miles on Amethech. So far, so good :D . Like BBbob, if i could stop my cam cover weeping oil, i would be a happy chappy

The HLA ticking had gone again this morning. :)

mach38_uk - My HLAs have ticked for yonks - no HLA treatment or regular oil change has ever got rid of it (always started twice to do that) until I put Ametech in. BTW - you shouldn't put Ametech with anything else like Wynns HLA treatment or a friction reducer like slick50 in the oil as it may be incompatible and cause problems.

BTW, AJ - did you just put the retsore in the oil or did you also try the teaspon of stuff down each spark plug well?

Sorry mate only noticed your question now. I changed the oil and filter and put the two full cans in - There was an improvement, no doubt about it but she still smokes when you hit the accelerator or go up hill. Threre's only 73k on the clock so I'm a bit disappointed, this is my second '95 Probe with this problem, I guess it's just bad luck.

I'm going to have to arrange going over to one of you blokes to get the rings done sometime next year if any of you guys fancy the work - any takers? - will give me a chance to bring the missus over to England for the weekend while I'm at it - a few browny points for AJ too

500 miles done... engine does seem to be running smoother and quieter. No adverse effects, acceleration does perhaps feel just a little sharper through the rev range but only a little and this could even be down to the mornings becoming a bit cooler. Will find out about emissions in November, but I'm pleased to have seen some improvement. Probably wouldn't bother with this stuff if running well and quiet with low miles to start with.
