I tried it a few weeks ago, have to say I didn't see a whole lot of difference. My rings are really bad anyhow so wasn't holding out much hope. I put 2 cans in and 500 miles later there was 'some' improvement but not a whole lot. I'm still taking about 7 inches off the ozone layer everytime I drive to work  - all a bit embarassing really   car looks great after all the bits & bobs I got from Mark apart from all the smoke when I hit the accelerator -- I'll have to stick with 15w40 and a couple of bottles of Bardahls until I can find an engine to swap

Think I'll give this a go at my next service (only did one a couple of weeks ago  ) Not that mine smokes at all, but with 176,000 on the clock I'm betting it could benefit from it as things will be a bit worn I should think. Be interesting to see if any noticeable increase of returned power happens. (always sceptical). I like things that work, another product that works and I believe head and shoulders above the rest is WonderWheels alloy cleaner (can't believe all the hours and scuffed knuckles I used to put into cleaning alloys before I found this stuff!)

If your car smokes that bad AJ, your only cure is rings or another motor mate, which is a shame  , but can't be avoided  . I,m lucky with my 24v in that i suspect she was laid up for some time in her past (possible accident damage to the drivers door etc) and its the reason she's only done 73K, although i dont know for sure  . I put the Ametech in on Saturday, so too early to tell yet, but she's a non-smoker anyway, quite good for an April 94 car, so i will be keeping an eye on things. Not all the early ones are baddies

My 'L' Reg 24v baby failed its MOT :( mainly on emission although it needs a bit of welding and there is a chip on the w/screen. I live in Scotland so I phoned Paul who sent me to this forum and as a result I've just ordered some Ametech so I'm keeping fingers crossed
I'll let you know how I get on after it arrives. Guess I'll need to get DH (Dear or Damned....depending  Husband) to change oil and filter.

Check the fault codes too, you might need O2 sensors.

I didn't have a smoking problem but as I have near 177k on the clock I thought this would be a good reason to give the stuff ago. So I haved put some in this weekend. It contains micro particles of Copper Silver and Lead which apparently fix small cracks and scratches in the metal of the cylinder chamber which can cause oil blow by and loss off compression - but they do say it's not a cure for broken piston rings etc.

BTW, AJ - did you just put the retsore in the oil or did you also try the teaspon of stuff down each spark plug well?

Only done about 45 miles since putting the stuff in and already I noticed this morning that the engine's a lot quieter - no more noisey HLA (the Wynns stuff never really got rid of it in my case) it also idles better and seemed to start easier. 8) Although I'm sure some of that can be attributed to the new cat.

I have mentioned this on your post too Bob, but i have a quieter engine after 100 miles using Ametech. No smoke either. I did use HLA with my first oil change, but i flushed everything out and started with fresh delco oil, filter, and 400ml of Ametech. So far all is well with good start up, no rattles, no smoke. And the car has spat out a load of black snott from the exhaust, although this may be the oil flush or injector cleaner doing its work. Still, i'm very pleased 8) :D

I've not noticed any snot out my exhaust so could possibly be the injector cleaner I would have thought? My engine's always been a little rattly - probably down to the mileage, but it's running as smooth as duncan goodhew's head now.

Roc's on hols for bit I think. However, they do sell in bulk at a discount. You might want to wait until all those currently testing this stuff have done the 500 miles they say you should do before seeing the improvement. I do 50 miles a day approx so shouldn't take long.

I have used this in my probe and I have no blue smoke, no lack of compression and it has halved my emissions which were checked last month for the MOT. It is available from ebay for £20.69 with free postage.
I have just filled up after the last fill up had done 345 miles now I am getting 396 off a tank, so I am well impressed.
Anyone else tried it?
Mick

Not knocking this stuff,i have not tried it....but why do you need it on a car with 42k?(details on your sig)

And 396 to a tank is only 30mpg.....not that good for a 16v...i get more than that and mine has 101,000 on it. :D

There's a good thread about it here :D

http://www.gtr.co.uk/forum/66347-ametec ... e-oil.html

I like the line.....on ebay next to electric turbo and resistor mod

Its a bit strange that it can only be bought on ebay......you would have thought a major brand would have taken it on and had it in all the major shops :? :?:

I shared your scepticism as a lot of these additives don't seem to live up to their claims.

But, I'm happy with results so far - I've tried both the pro and standard Wynns HLA treatment stuff and neither have quitened the noisy HLA I had like this stuff. My engine is probably fairly worn at 177k so possibly benefits more than lower mileage one. The real test will be when it comes to MOT in November as mine has only ever just scraped through. I will report back on things when it comes to that time and compare to last year's emissions reading.

Lots of info on their website: http://www.americantechnology.co.uk/ and of course I would recommend reading the instructions carefully before using as they don't recommend using it with certain oils etc.

I thought it was worth a gamble - someone has to give it a go before making an informed judgement. So I'm gonna reserve my full judgement until November.

My restore has been in 3 weeks now, done about 500 miles, and Yes there are improvements.
Lots less smoke on startup in mornings and engine does sound less tappity/tappety (how do you spell it ? :D }
Not noticed any difference in performance tho.

Seems to have improved mpg slightly but that may be down to me being knackered all the time just lately and driving slower that usual :D
